Over the past 30 years I’ve led my own bands and released five albums, with my sixth — recorded in New York in September 2025 — now in production. Five of my albums are released on the Jazzhead label, while my most recent, The Offering, appears on Earshift Music. From 2017–19 I lived in New York, completing a Masters of Music at Queens College. I’ve had the privilege of working with many great artists including Arthur Blythe, Odean Pope, Wycliffe Gordon, and Maceo Parker. For 13 years I also performed with The Bamboos, contributing to nine albums and numerous side projects. I’ve studied saxophone with Dave Liebman, Chris Potter, George Garzone, Antonio Hart, Tim Armacost, Rich Perry, Joel Frahm, and Dayna Stephens, harmony with David Berkman, and composition/arranging with Dennis Mackrel and Michael Philip Mossman. I hold degrees in music and multimedia design, and I’ve taught in a wide range of contexts — from mentoring at the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Queens, to lecturing at Collarts and teaching saxophone and ensembles at Scotch College Melbourne. It traces a journey from my hometown in rural Australia to the subways of New York City. The music grew out of my time living in New York from 2017–19, and this record represents the culmination of those experiences. We recorded the album over two freezing days in Brooklyn in December 2019. It includes seven of my original compositions, along with Horace Silver’s Barbara and Hoagy Carmichael’s beautiful ballad Skylark. I was fortunate to work with an incredible group of musicians: Caili O’Doherty on piano, Cory Cox on drums, and Blue Note artist Immanuel Wilkins, who joined us on alto saxophone for three tracks. Melbourne-born bassist Matt Clohesy, a longtime part of the New York scene, also brought so much to the session.
